QUICK SEARCH

Search and Filter Explanation Video

The Basics

The quick search  is a simplified version of the Search Wizard. With the quick search you can filter the records listed in the browse table below it. You can only create one query filter at a time, but queries can be combined just like in Search Wizard. The quick search button opens the Query Wizard window.

Select the field where you would like to search using the drop down and then type in the value that you are looking for. Some fields cause the ellipsis button to appear next to the Value to Look For entry field.

Clicking the arrow or ellipse opens a lookup window which lists all available values for that field. For example, entering Customer as your field allows you to select your value using a list of all customers. If the field is a date field, then the lookup window will be a calendar.

Once you have entered in the Field to Search and Value to Look For, click  OK to run the query. The table browser will only show the records that are true to the statement Field to Search is equal to Value to Look For. Not all queries will come up with items in the results. If the table browser is empty, then none of the records were true for your query.

To clear the results of the query from the table browser and list all the original records in the table browser, click .

Combining Queries

When initiating a new query when there is already a query in use, a window pops up asking if you would like to combine queries.

Selecting “AND Join to Previous Query” lists the records that are true for both queries. Selecting “OR Join to Previous Query” lists the records that are true for either query. Selecting “Do Not Join to Previous Query” clears the previous query’s results and lists the only results of the new query.

When combining with both AND and OR, the query wizard will run the queries in the order that you enter each query. Once the query results are shown, any additional queries that you combine with the original query or queries will be based off that list of results. Therefore, even if the results are the product of multiple queries being combined, the query wizard regards them as the product of one query.

Examples of Combining Queries

One OR Combination

Customer is equal to Customer 1 OR Customer is equal to Customer 2. This combined query will list the records of both Customer 1 and Customer 2.

OR, then AND

Customer is equal to Customer 1 OR Customer is equal to Customer 2 AND Status is equal to Shipping. This combined query will list the records of Customer 1 and Customer 2 that have a Shipping Status.

AND, then OR

Customer is equal to Customer 1 AND Status is equal to Shipping OR Customer is equal to Customer 2. This combined query will list the records of Customer 1 that have a Shipping status and all records of Customer 2 regardless of status.

Series of Combining Queries and How They Stack

Here is a step by step example of a long list of AND and OR combined queries to give you an idea of how queries stack.

Customer is equal to Customer 1

The results will list all of Customer 1’s records.

Customer is equal to Customer 1 AND Date to Ship is equal to 10/29/2015

The results will list Customer 1’s records with a Date to Ship of 10/29/2015

Customer is equal to Customer 1 AND Date to Ship is equal to 10/29/2015 OR Customer is equal to Customer 2

The results will list Customer 1’s records with a Date to Ship of 10/29/2015 and all the records of Customer 2.

Customer is equal to Customer 1 AND Date to Ship is equal to 10/29/2015 OR Customer is equal to Customer 2 AND Status is equal to Open

The results will list Customer 1’s records with a Date to Ship of 10/29/2015 and with a status of Open and will list Customer 2’s records with a status of Open.

Customer is equal to Customer 1 AND Date to Ship is equal to 10/29/2015 OR Customer is equal to Customer 2 AND Status is equal to Open OR Entered By is equal to JMS.

The results will list Customer 1’s records with a Date to Ship of 10/29/2015 and with a status of Open, Customer 2’s records with a status of Open, and all records that were entered by JMS.

Customer is equal to Customer 1 AND Date to Ship is equal to 10/29/2015 OR Customer is equal to Customer 2 AND Status is equal to Open OR Entered By is equal to JMS AND Date Order Shipped is equal to 10/31/2015.

The results will list Customer 1’s records with a Date to Ship of 10/29/2015, a status of Open, and a Date Order Shipped of 10/31/2015; Customer 2’s records with a status of Open and a Date Order Shipped of 10/31/2015; and records that were entered by JMS with a Date Order Shipped of 10/31/2015.
